The operational value of knowledge management in the new era

Abstract

In this presentation, we will look in more detail at the importance of knowledge management and what its implementation means for a company. Before explaining this, it is necessary to define various basic concepts unambiguously, in order to avoid possible ambiguities. Because of the important difference between information management and knowledge management, it is necessary to mention the relationship between data, information, and knowledge. Moreover, in the context of knowledge management, the intention is to make as much knowledge explicit as possible, to record it, make it available, and share it with others, so that the knowledge is disseminated at an organizational level. In this context, the distinction between implicit and explicit knowledge on the one hand and individual and organizational knowledge on the other is also relevant. Also, the different forms of knowledge that a person can possess are explained. To conclude this introductory part, we conclude with an explanation of what shadow knowledge is and how it can be a burden to a company.
